Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival is the second longest-running festival of its kind, dedicated to showcasing the finest LGBTQ+ films and videos every year. From award-winning international feature films to powerful documentaries and experimental shorts, Reeling presents a wide range of genres that highlight the vibrant diversity of LGBTQ+ filmmaking. It has not only become a cultural cornerstone for Chicagoans but also attracts LGBTQ+ individuals from across the Midwest, who see the festival as the highlight of their cinematic year. Reeling’s mission is to celebrate the artistic contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender filmmakers, while also educating and raising awareness about LGBTQ+ issues. The festival explores the history of LGBTQ+ film, including the harmful stereotypes often found in mainstream media, and seeks to counter these with authentic, meaningful, and diverse portrayals. This event provides a unique platform for celebrating identities and stories that are too often misrepresented or overlooked in conventional film and television.
