The river will be transformed into a striking emerald green, a tradition that dates back to 1962. The best viewing spots are along the Chicago Riverwalk, near Columbus Drive and State Street. The dyeing process, which uses an eco-friendly secret formula, lasts several hours, drawing crowds of onlookers who gather early to witness the spectacle.

Following the river dyeing, the 70th Annual Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 12:15 p.m. The parade route runs along Columbus Drive, beginning at Balbo Drive and heading north toward Monroe Drive.
